Online published on 28 October, 2015. Abstract Aim To study the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea and irregular menstrual cycle among Saveetha Dental College students. Objective to know the prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea and irregular menstruation among Saveetha Dental College students. Back ground Dysmenorrhea is often defined simply as menstrual pain or at least menstrual pain that is excessive. Primary dysmenorrhea is a medical condition of pain which is worst during first day of menstruation that interferes with daily activities. It is not associated with any pathological changes. Pain is believed to be ischemic due to spasm of the arteries. Irregular timing of periods along with pain (primary dysmenorrhea is a common problem for most girls. Primary dysmenorrhea indicates that ovulation has occurred. Soon after menarche the cycle will be without ovulation so there may not be primary dysmenorrhea. Prevalence of dysmenorrhea has been shown to be less in lower social classes. Treatment will improve the quality of life.
