Online published on 28 October, 2015. Abstract Aim The aim of the review is to study about management of chronic pancreatitis. Objective The purpose of the review is to know about management of chronic pancreatitis Background Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disease of the pancreas, characterized by irreversible morphologic changes and gradual fibrotic replacement of the glands and calcification of the gland. Loss of exocrine and endocrine function results from parenchymal insufficiency. The most common symptoms of CP are abdominal pain, loss of pancreatic enzymes causing maldigestion, steatorrhoea and severe loss of weight. Deficiency of insulin leads to diabetes mellitus. Principles of management of CP include treatment for maldigestion with oral enzymes, diabetes mellitus with insulin, abdominal pain with analgesics and management of complications. Pancreatic transplant may be considered in suitable patients. Reason To create awareness about the management of chronic pancreatitis. Top | |
