Objective The main objective is to assess the effect of acupuncture in treating lower back pain. The article also evaluates a comparison of acupuncture with other treatments. Background Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is mainly best effective in relieving pain. Dry needling is a useful adjunct for chronic low back pain. Dry needling refers to use of filiform or hollow core needles for therapy of muscle pain and is also known as intramuscular stimulation. Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder characterised by pain, sourness and muscular tension which does not have a specific cause. Conclusion Acupuncture is an alternative medicine which has no or minor side effects only. In this aspect, it is better than its counterparts. The western medical treatment of lower back pain is expensive. Hence acupuncture is a cheaper and more effective alternative.
