Mapping the potential distribution of Achatina fulica (Bowdich) (Stylommatophora: Achatinidae) in India using CLIMEX, a bioclimatic software

Abstract

Modeling of climatically similar locations was done based on the existing geographic distribution for the giant African snail, Achatina fulica using. Climate Match. function of CLIMEX, a bioclimatic software. Majority areas in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, parts of North-Eastern India showed < 0.7 CMI (Composite Match Index), limiting the spread of the snail into such pockets. Parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu showed > 0.7 CMI, which are climatically very similar to the locations, where A. fulica is already prevalent.
