Abstract

The paper explores the ICT skills in a collaborative age through the use of Web 2.0 tools by the LIS professionals working in the college libraries affiliated to the University of Delhi. The present study, the data was collected from the respondents through a structured questionnaire using the survey method. The questionnaires were distributed among 171 LIS professionals of 74 college libraries affiliated to the University of Delhi through visiting and personal meetings and email eliciting a response of 87.1 percent. A five-point Likert scale was used to assess respondents’ Web 2.0 competencies. The findings showed that the majority of LIS professionals were aware generally of what Web 2.0 tools were, but the use of Web 2.0 tools in the college library was not satisfactory and did not connect with users and also not providing Web 2.0 based-services to users. Hence, LIS professionals must update their skills and competencies in Web 2.0 technologies to collaborate and empower the users, improve their library services, and ensure information and resources. The authors advocate that college libraries have to cross alongside technological adjustments that are taking place to continue to be relevant in including value to establishments of higher learning. It is additionally necessary to continue constructing the potential of LIS Professionals to ensure that they proceed to add value in college libraries.
