Evaluation of different fungicides as seed dressers against cumin wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cumini

Abstract

Among all the tested fungicides, complete inhibition of the fungal growth i.e. 100.00 per cent was recorded with Bavistin (carbendazim) and with combination fungicide Sixer (carbendazim + mancozeb) at all the tested concentrations. The next best fungicides in order of fungal growth inhibition were Raxil (tebuconazole), Topsin-M (thiophanate methyl) and Cosko (carboxin + thiram) which inhibited the fungal growth by 95.00, 93.00 and 91.00 per cent at 50, 50 and 250 ppm concentrations, respectively and showed complete inhibition (100.00%) at their highest tested concentration of 500, 500, 1500 ppm respectively. Seed treatment with Bavistin (carbendazim) resulted in highest seed germination (81.66%) and lowest wilt incidence (24.48 per cent) followed by Sixer that showed germination of 80.00 per cent and wilt incidence of 25.00 per cent whereas in control germination and wilt incidence were recorded to be 33.33 and 80.00 per cent, respectively. Both these fungicides were found to be statistically at par with each other. Next effective seed dresser were Raxil and Topsin-M that showed germination of 80.00 and 78.33 per cent and wilt incidence of 31.25 and 31.93 per cent, respectively. These fungicides were found to be at par with best fungicides i.e. Bavistin (81.66%) and Sixer (80.00%) in germination and with each other in wilt incidence. Seed treatment with Indofil-M-45 (mancozeb) and Antracol (propineb) were found to be least effective which showed germination of 70.00 and 71.66 per cent and wilt incidence of 50.00 and 48.89 per cent, respectively.
