Abstract
The seeds viability observed with tertrazoilum test (TTC) showed high level of viability percentage (90–100). The now electrical conductance of the seed leachates (0.250 to 0.29 nmho cm”1) indicated the intactness of membranous system and viability of seeds. Seeds showed very poor germination (5–7%) indicating the high level of seed dormancy. Hot water seed treatment was not much effective whereas pre-chilling seed treatment for longer duration (48 to 72 hours) enhanced seed germination. The pre-sowlng soaking of seeds In GA3 (200 ppm) was found superior in increasing seed germination and vigour index as compared to other thiourea and KN03 treatment (0.1 and 1.0%). Pre-chilllng seed treatments (24 hours) followed by seed treatments with GA3, KN03 & thiourea showed synergistic effect on germination and seedling vigour.
