Author Guidelines


Manuscript Submission Information

Media Watch is a refereed international journal that publishes original papers on communication research, theory, and practice. Interdisciplinary or specialist papers are welcomed. Contributors should be familiar with the nature and scope of the Media Watch. Familiarity with past issues of the journal is essential. Accepted papers will be edited as deemed appropriate. Normally, the editor sends page proofs back to the authors for checking at the final stage.

  1. All contributions are subject to 'blind' review, so that, while the title page should contain the contributor's name, institutional affiliation, contact details including their e-mail IDs of all authors , and the contributor should not be able to be identified within the text. The title of the paper should be repeated at the top of the first page of the typescript. Contributors will normally be informed of the decision of the editorial board within 60 days.

  2. The Abstract should be informative and completely self-explanatory, briefly present the topic, state the scope of the experiments, indicate significant data, and point out major findings and conclusions. Complete sentences, active verbs, and the third person should be used, and the abstract should be written in the past tense. Standard nomenclature should be used and abbreviations should be avoided. No literature should be cited.

  3. All articles must be accompanied by an abstract of 100 to 150 words, approximately five key words, a brief profile of the author of about 50 words and not exceeding 100 words in case of multiple authors.

  4. Articles should be submitted with the cover page bearing only the title of the article, author/s' names, designations, official addresses, phone/fax numbers, e-mail addresses and WhatsApp Author/s' name should not appear on any other page. In case there are two or more authors, then corresponding author's name and address details must be clearly specified on the first page itself.

  5. The Introduction should provide a clear statement of the problem, the relevant literature on the subject, and the proposed approach or solution. It should be understandable to readers from a broad range of scientific disciplines.

  6. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically (e-mail) in MS Word attachment and must adhere to (i) Times New Roman 12pt. font, (ii) 1.5 spacing, (iii) justified, (iv) page numbers, (v) no paragraph indention, (vi) no identifying headers and footers are to be used in papers which are to be blind-referred, and (vii) double spacing between paragraphs. Authors are requested to ensure that their paper(s) adhere to correct and consistent documentation (confirming to APA documentation style), punctuation, style, format, and others before submission. To streamline publication, in fact, to guarantee publication of the paper, these are essential.

  7. Successful submissions generally run maximum 7000 words (excluding notes) for articles and research papers. The entire manuscript should have one and a half-inch margin on all sides. Tables should be clear and understandable independent of the text.

  8. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for including any copyrighted material that needs permission for reproducing previously published materials, charts, photographs, tables and images. Although contributing authors retain copyright, they give permission to Editor, Media Watch to reprint their published papers/articles in other electronic and print formats, including books.

  9. All authors must take public responsibility for the content of their paper. The multidisciplinary nature of much research can make this difficult, but this can be resolved by the disclosure of individual contributions. Careful reading of the journal's "Author Instructions and Submit Manuscript" are advised. Any conflict of interest must be clearly stated by the Author(s). Author(s) must acknowledge the sources of data used in the development of the manuscript. If errors discovered in the manuscript after submission must be quickly communicated to the Editor.

  10. Do not embed images into Word documents. Photos and images should be sent in GIF/JPG format. Please keep the file size to a minimum. The softcopy of the manuscript has to be sent to the Editor, Media Watch by E-mail: editor@mediawatchjournal.in / mediawatchjournal@gmail.com

  11. All photographs and scanned images should have a resolution of minimum 300 dpi and 1500 pixels and their format should be TIFF or JPEG. Due permissions should be taken for copyright protected photographs/images. Even for photographs/images available in the public domain, it should be clearly ascertained whether or not their reproduction requires permission for purposes of publishing (which is a profit-making endeavor). All photographs/scanned images should be provided separately.

  12. Author(s) should include information about research funding in all papers they prepare for publication.

  13. Submission implies commitment to publish in the journal. Authors submitting manuscripts to Media Watch should not simultaneously submit them to another journal for consideration of publication, nor should the manuscript have been published elsewhere including in web form. All manuscripts are subject to review process by academicians working in the relevant fields. The editorial board of the journal will review invited papers, articles and essays.

  14. Submissions must be written according to the publication manual of American Psychological Association (6th edition). See: http://www.apstyle.org. Some common structures of submission in APA style is uploaded in For Contributors or APA Style 6th Editon of the website.

  15. A consolidated listing of all books, articles, essays, theses and documents referred to (including any referred to in the tables, graphs and maps) should be provided at the end of the article.

  16. Arrangement of references: Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last name of the first author of each work. In each reference, authors' names are inverted (last name first) for all authors (first, second or subsequent ones); give the last name and initials for all authors of a particular work unless the work has more than six authors. If the work has more than six authors, list the first six authors and then use et al. after the sixth author's name.

  17. Citations and References should adhere to the guidelines below (based on thePublication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition)

  18. Copyright Form: Authors will be provided with a copyright form once the contribution is accepted for publication. The submission will be considered as final only after the filled-in and signed copyright form is received. In case there are two or more authors, the corresponding author needs to sign the copyright form.

Summary of manuscripts for publication

Articles/Critical Essays: Manuscripts up to 7000 words which represent original work. Under this category, the articles/papers should clearly describe new and carefully confirmed results and experimental and methodological procedure which should be given in required details for others to verify the work. The length of the paper should be the minimum required to describe and interpret the work clearly. For proper referring and fast publication, the manuscript should be grammatically correct.

Review Process : Article submissions received will first be screened by one of the Editor-in-Chief/Editor to ensure thematic adequacy, sufficient quality and style of the publication. All manuscripts will be subject to a well established, fair, unbiased peer review and referring procedure, and are considered on the basis of their significance and usefulness to the journal's readership. If a manuscript is considered appropriate for review, it will be sent out to a minimum of two reviewers. The review process is mutually anonymous-Reviewers are not disclosed to authors, and authors are not disclosed to the reviewers. The review output will be one of the decisions: Accept, Accept with minor changes, Accept with major changes, and Reject

Usually authors will receive the editorial decision within 6 months. The editors reserve the right to reject a paper, if it does not meet the aims and scope of the journal, technically sound and focoused, it is not revised satisfactorily, or if it is inadequate in presentation.

Checklist for the Authors

  • Correct and consistent documentation (conforming to APA documentation style)

  • Adherence to style guidelines

  • Correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar

  • Formatted according to guidelines

  • Hard copy (printed on paper) and soft copy (e-mailed Word doc) supplied

Copyright : Submission of a manuscript implies; that the work described has not been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, or thesis) that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the publisher.

Subscription : Authors are required to subscribe the journal for at least a year in case their paper is accepted for publication in the journal. Neither is acceptance to pay the subscription fee a guarantee that the paper will be accepted for publication in the journal. Authors may still request (in advance) that the editorial office waive some amount of the subscription fee under special circumstances.

Authors must follow the instructions

  1. Authors must declare that the work reported is their own and that they are the copyright owner. If required, the authors have to obtain the copyright owner's permission for their work.

  2. Authors must declare that the submitted work and its essential have not previously been published and are not being considered for publication elsewhere.

  3. Only unpublished manuscripts should be submitted.

  4. Authors should submit the copyright declaration loaded in the journal website.

  5. Author(s) must avoid disputes over attribution of academic credit.

  6. All authors must take responsibility for the content of their paper. Disclosure of individual contributions is appreciated.

  7. Author(s) must acknowledge the sources of data used in the development of the manuscript.

  8. Author(s) should include information about the research funding in the paper they prepare for publication.

  9. Authors should inform to the Editor of the journal, if they discover errors in the published work.

  10. Authors have a right to appeal editorial decisions regarding publication of their papers.
