Bio-medical Waste Management: A review Badni Manjunath, Reader, Dharmashree R D, Senior Lecturer Sardar Patel Postgraduate Institute of Dental and Medical Sciences, Lucknow Abstract The waste produced in the course of health care activities carries a higher potential for infection and injury than any other type of waste. Environmental pollution has become a major concern for the future of life on our planet. Appropriate management of health care waste is thus a crucial component. Government hospitals, Private hospitals, Nursing homes, Physician's office, Dentist's office, Dispensaries are some of the sources of Bio Medical Waste (BMW). “Sensitizing” the generators of waste to properly segregate the waste at the source of generation is the “key” to the successful implementation of Bio Medical Waste Rules, 1998.
