Abstract

Communities of Practice (CoPs) are groups of people with a common interest that are focused on collaboration and sharing of information related to their common interest. Wenger describes the structure of a CoP as consisting of three interrelated terms: mutual engagement, joint enterprise and shared repertoire. Intentional online learning communities may be categorized as knowledge-based, practice-based, and task-based. Online Social learning is learning via conversations, social media and the learning web 2.0 technologies. Web 2.0 tools have elevated the social networking activity and skills of individuals. Some of the widely used Web 2.0 tools in e-learning systems are Wikis, blogs, social bookmarking, really simple syndication reader pages etc.

Conclusion

The strength of recent community of practice lies in the emergence of Web 2.0 tools, a concept that has developed some new initiatives in education identified as “e-Learning 2.0”. It is necessary to create social networking system that is enhanced by merging learning resources with other aiding resources, and also emphasizing the use of collaboration in the learning process.
