In a world of instant information, the concept ofvisiting the libraries for a piece of information by the users is now an antiquated one. It would be hardly surprising that in libraries in India the most significant strides are bang made in automation practices and procedures. This study reviews the literature on library automation collected through literary sources such as journal articles, conference proceedings, reports, monographs, etc. published inside and outside India evaluating the library automation, library services, need for automation, problems faced by the professionals, etc.
