Development of decision support system for air distribution system of a Thermal Power Plant

Abstract

The present paper deals with the development of Decision Support System for Steam generating system of a Thermal Power Plant using preemptive resume priority repair policy. A Thermal Power Plant is a complex engineering system, which comprises of various systems connected in series and parallel configuration. These systems are mainly Power generating system, Ash handling system, Feed water system, Water treatment system, Coal handling system, Steam generating system and Air distribution system. The mathematical model of Air distribution system has been developed using Markov Birth - Death Process. The differential equations have been developed on the basis of probabilistic approach using transition diagram. These equations are further solved using normalizing conditions in order to develop the Steady State Availability, which is the measure of performance of a system concerned. The system performance has been further analyzed with the help of Decision Matrices. These matrices provide various Availability levels for different combinations of failures and repair rates for various subsystems. Furthermore, Decision Support System has also been developed based on Decision Matrices of Air distribution system of a Thermal Power Plant concerned.
