Abstract The present study deals with the assessment of physico-chemical characteristics of Ranjit Sagar reservoir, Jammu. The physico-chemical characteristics of Ranjit Sagar reservoir were studied and analyzed for a period of one year, during January 2004 - December 04. Seasonal variations from four sampling stations of the reservoir were observed. Various parameters including temperature, conductivity, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, CO2, total alkalinity, chloride, phosphate, nitrate, calcium and total hardness were analyzed. The results revealed that there were significant seasonal variations in some physico-chemical parameters and most of the parameters were in the normal range and indicated better water quality of reservoir.
