Abstract

An experimental study was conducted in five crossbred calves, which were orally infected with 200 metacercariae of F. gigantica. Necropsy examination revealed granulomas in liver of a calf which died 135 days post-infection. Histopathological examination showed presence of fluke eggs in the liver parenchyma inducing severe granulomatous reaction in the vicinity. Egg related pathology as seen in the case of Schistosoma spp. is not normally expected in bovine fasciolosis.
