Effect of dietary supplementation of lipid utilizing agents and NSP degrading enzymes in broilers

Abstract

A total of 120, day old straight run commercial broiler chicks were divided at random into four equal treatments with triplicate groups of 10 chicks each. A practical type corn-soy based broiler diet was prepared as per the BIS (1992) specification to serve as control while the test diets were prepared by supplementing the control diet with either lipid utilizing agents (100 units lipase + 20 g lecithin per kg of diet) or NSP degrading enzymes (1000, 400, 200 and 100 units, respectively of xylanase, β-glucanase, cellulose and pectinase - 100 units per kg of diet) or their combination. Each such diets prepared for starter (0–14 days), grower (15–28 days) and finisher (29–42 days) was offered to triplicate groups of birds. The results revealed that there was a non-significant (P>0.05) difference in cumulative body weight gain, feed consumption and feed efficiency among different groups. At the terminal day, the dressing percentage, weight of liver, spleen, bursa, heart, gizzard, proventriculus and abdominal fat pad as well as length of different segments of small intestine remained uniform among different dietary groups. The net returns, performance index score and economic index score were similar among different groups. It was inferred that the dietary supplementation of either lipase with lecithin or NSP degrading enzymes has no influence on growth performance, carcass characteristics and development of vital organs of broiler birds.
