The effect of some growth regulators on phosphorus metabolism in germinating seeds of fenugreek

Summary

Estimations of different types of phosphorus were made in germinating seeds of fenugreek (Trigonella foennm-graeeum L.). In dry seeds about 76% of the total phosphorus was present as phytic acid followed by H3PO4 (12.7%), nucleic acid phosphorus (3.6%), lipid phosphorus (3.5%) and protein phosphorus (2.1%). The level of phytic acid did not change significantly during the 1st 48 hours of germination but thereafter it declined rapidly and disappeared almost completely in 8 days of germination. Levels of lipid ‘P’ and nucleic acid ‘P’ increased significantly after 96 hours of germination. Protein phosphorus increased gradually from the start of germination. Among the concentrations tested only GA3 (10 ppm) and MH (200 ppm) were effective significantly on pi/phytin. Combination of MH (100 ppm)+GA3(10 ppm) was even more effective.
