Comparative evaluation of pressure produced on maxillary denture bearing areas by different impression techniques-an in vivo study

Abstract

Aims

Whether the primary stress bearing areas are subjected to more pressure as compared to secondary or non stress bearing areas. The provision of spacer & escape holes helps in reduction & selective application of pressure on stress bearing and non stress bearing areas.

Method

an indigenously made instrument was used to eveluate pressure on the different designated areas, different impression trays were used to record impression and the difference in pressure exerted was recorded.

Result

The Data was entered in MS Excel and analysed using Minitab 13 for Windows. Paired t-test was used for comparison of means. P value of less than 0.05 was considered significant.

Conclusion

It was not possible to subject the stress bearing areas to higher pressure as compared to other area The maximum increase in pressure was observed in midpalatal region, whether we use tray with spacer or without spacer.
