A Study to assess the Quality of life among Persons living with Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and Arthritis in selected Village of Ludhiana, Punjab

Abstract

Background of the Study

Quality of Life (QOL) is a broad ranging concept affected in a complex way by the person's physical health, psychological state, level of independence, social relationships, personal beliefs and their relationship to salient features of their environment.

Objectives

To assess the quality of life among persons living with hypertension, diabetes mellitus and arthritis.

Methodology

The research design adopted for this study was exploratory quantitative research design. Total 75 persons living with hypertension, diabetes mellitus and arthritis was selected by nonprobability convenient sampling techniques. Data was collected by using Standardized structured tool; The World Health Organization Quality of life (WHOQOL)-BREF, through interview technique.

Results

This study reveals that majority of the persons with hypertension 34 (79.07%), diabetes mellitus 20 (80.00%) and arthritis 6(85.71%) had average quality of life whereas only few persons with hypertension 6 (13.95%), diabetes mellitus 4 (16.00%) and arthritis 1(14.29%) had good quality of life.

Conclusion

The present study revealed that majority of persons with Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and Arthritis have average quality of life. Henceearly diagnosis and compliance with recommended treatment is paramount in the successful management of this disease and ensuring better quality of life.
