A Descriptive study to Assess the Perception regarding Nursing Profession among Students of Senior Secondary Schools in Kurali (Punjab)

The student knowledge based about the nursing profession is very limited and not well understood. Students established their ideas of nursing from books, television program or movies that features nurses, friends and family members and nurses encountered in the health care setting. Sometimes this preconceived ideas of nursing is not realistic. The reality of practice may altered the student perception regarding nursing profession. A non experimental descriptive study design was used to assess the perception towards nursing profession among selected senior secondary school students studying in Kurali. The target population comprises of the school students of 10+1 and 10+2 classes studying in selected school, Kurali simple random sampling technique was used for selecting the sample of 60 students were selected for the study. Tool was prepared after extensive review of literature and discussion with guide. Tool consisted of 2 parts i.e. part 1 sociodemographic data, part 2 is includes the check list to assess perception towards nursing profession s. The reliability was assessed by split half method and found out to 0.9 that means the tool is highly reliable. The pilot study was conducted on 6 samples during month of May 2017 to test feasibility of the study. Required changes were made after tool tryout. Analysis of the study was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results of the present study showed that 75% of the school students had positive perception regarding nursing profession, 20% had neutral perception and 5% of the school students had negative perception towards nursing profession. There is no significant relationship between perception of the students regarding Nursing Profession with socio-Demographic variables.
