Abstract

PMS syndrome is a common cause of physical, behavioural and social dysfunction in women’ s of reproductive age that occurs cyclically and recurrently starting 1–2 weeks before menstrual period hence this condition use to be called Premenstrual tension. The precise caused of PMS is still unknown. The most severe form of the syndrome affects between 3% to 5% of women of reproductive age and statistical manual disorder is known as premenstrual dysphonic disorder. Methods: A pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was used to evaluate the effectiveness of STP on knowledge regarding Pre-menstrual syndrome and its management among female nursing students studying in Gangasheel school of Nursing, Bareilly. A structured knowledge questionnaire was prepared. Reliability was found 0.80. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to collect the data. Result: The findings reveals that the mean of post-test knowledge score (21.08 + 4.872) were apparently higher than that of mean pre-test knowledge score (16.26 +3.92) and the significant difference between the mean of pre-test and post-test knowledge (4.82). The mean difference shows the effectiveness of STP. Therefore, research hypothesis (H1) was accepted. The calculated chi-square value in the age is 1.76, The calculated chi-square value in the educational status of mother is 2.013, The calculated chi-square value in the religion is 74.76, The calculated chi-square value in the area of residence is 1.433, The calculated chi-square value in the type of family is 2.69, The calculated chi-square value in the source of information about PMS is 146.11, The calculated chi-square value in the teaching programme regarding PMS is 12.411, These all findings reveal that there is significant association between socio demographic variables like Religion, Source of information and teaching programme regarding PMS, and its management among female nursing students at 0.05 level of significance. Conclusion: This study reveals that STP was effective in increasing knowledge regarding Pre-menstrual syndrome and its management among female nursing students.
