Assessment of Quality of Life among Diabetic Patients Visiting Medical Out Patient Department at Selected Health Care Facilities at Punjab

Abstract

Introduction

Diabetes mellitus is one of the major world health problems of modern society. It is well recognized fact that diabetes mellitus is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Quality of life is an important aspect in diabetes as one might predict, people with diabetes rate their health-related quality of life significantly less favorably, on average, than people without diabetes.

Methods

A descriptive survey was conducted to assess the health-related quality of life among diabetic patients. A total of 100 patients having diabetes mellitus those fulfilling the inclusive criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique.

Findings

The study concludes that all the study participants had good health related quality of life with the mean and SD of 130.89 ± 16.573 respectively. As per chi square test, association between health-related quality of life and type of family, occupational status and family history of diabetes mellitus found significant at level of p <0.05. Hence there is a significant relationship between health-related quality of life with type of family, occupational status and family history of diabetes mellitus.

Conclusion

The study concluded that most of the subjects were having good health related quality of life.
