Abstract

Sixteen growing crossbred (Corriedale x local) lambs (3.5–5.5 m; 13,7±1.0 kg) divided into 4 equal groups, were fed on dry mixed grssses ad lib. and a concentrate mixture to meet 40% of protein requirement. Rest 60% of protein requirements were met through groundnut cake (T), mustard cake (T2) and Subabul leaf meal (SLM) replacing mustard cake protein at 50% (T) and 75% (T) levels. Therumen pH and TVFA concentrations in rumen liquor samples were comparable among the groups. Similarly, nitrogen fractions (total-N, NH3-N, TCA soluble-N) and total protozoal count along with Entodiniomorphs to Holotrichs ratio in rumen liquor did not differ significantly among the groups. Concentrations of all the nitrogen metabolites were lower in group T4 Dietary treatments did not affect wool yield staple length fibre diameter medullation percentage and bundle strength.
