Dental anxiety (DA) denotes a state of apprehension that something dreadful is going to happen in relation to dental treatment, and is coupled with a sense of losing control. The present trend advocates the use of non-aversive techniques like distraction in the management of anxious paediatric patients.

The aim of this study was to compare the effect of audio distraction with the normal set-up operatory.

Hundred patients of age between 4 and 8 years were included in the study. Each patient had gone through four dental visits. Anxiety was measured using Venham's picture test and Venham's anxiety rating scale. The values obtained were tabulated and statistically analysed.

A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed in the venham's picture test and anxiety rating scores in control and music group during 3rd and 4th visits respectively.

Audio distraction did decrease the level of anxiety in anxious paediatric dental patients to a significant level during the restorative procedure visit (3rd) and invasive procedure visit (4th).
