Online published on 24 October, 2018. Abstract Rationale Tremendous increase in development of resistance to the antimicrobials has created alarming situation for researchers and clinicians. Method An attempt has been made to develop a series of isoxazoline derivatives by using Claisen-Schmidt condensation and Michael addition. All the newly synthesized compounds were characterized by TLC, IR and 1HNMR spectroscopy. These isoxazoline compounds H1 to H4 were screened for their antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria (S. aureus and B. subtilis) and Gram negative bacteria (E. coli and P. aeurogenosa) using Disc diffusion method. Results Amongst all, compound H2 and H4 showed significant antimicrobial activity against the all bacteria which was comparable to standard Ciprofloxacin. Conclusion Synthesized Isoxazoline derivatives exhibits a good antimicrobial activity and can be further explored to confirm their suitability at clinical level.
