A Study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding prevention of home accidents among parents of under five years children in selected rural areas of Nagpur District

Unintentional injury remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children worldwide. The aim of a study was to describe the mother's education and her knowledge in relation to home accidents prevention in rural area in Sharkia Governorate. Study design, a cross-sectional descriptive study design was adopted in this study. The sample sizewas 150 mothers from Kafr Mohsen village; this number was drawn by a systematic random sampling techniqueby visiting every 5 house in the village. The mother's were inter-viewed in their homes through home visits. The conclusion of this study revealed that, well educated mothers will use the proper first aid. So there is need for parent's educational programs especially mothers with preschool children about home accidents and how to manage.
To evaluate the existing knowledge of parents regarding prevention of home accidents among under-five years children. 2. To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on parents regarding prevention of home accidents among under-five years children. 3. To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge regarding the prevention of home accidents. 4. To associate the knowledge of parents regarding prevention of home accidents with selected demographic variables.
This study was based on evaluative approach and Pre-experimental study, one group pre and post test design” is used. The sample consisted of Parents of under five years children in selected rural areas of Nagpur District. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used and Structured questionnairetool was used.
Paired t-test was applied to compare knowledge score before and after structured teaching programme among parents of under five years children. The t-test was found to be 19.72 at the degree of freedom 60 and level of significance 0.05. Hence, null hypothesis is rejected and research hypothesis is accepted. The knowledge the structured teaching programme on prevention of home accidents is proved to be effective in delivering the knowledge and awareness.
To concluded that structured teaching programme was effective strategy to make a difference among parents of under five years children..
