Abstract

Comparative performance of P. cerasoides and P. cornuta as rootstock for cherry variety Emperor Francis was studied in nursery. It was found that graft success of variety Emperor Francis was 93.33 per cent on P. cerasoides and 63.33 per cent on P. cornuta. However, grafts on P. cornuta made more growth in respect to linear growth, scion girth, number of leaves and size of leaves than on P. cerasoides. Grafts on P. cerasoides made fast growth for the first few weeks, while grafts on P. cornuta made uniform and vigorous growth from the time of sprouting to the time of entering into dormancy with the result that average, linear growth per plant was 95 cm as compared to 47.10 cm on P. cerasoides rootstock.
